Hello! My name is Karen Jones (AKA ) Kaz. I am a dramatherapist and a clinical supervisor. Working with children, young people, families and adults. As a clinician and an artists my aim is to offer support to mental health, wellbeing and self-care to those who need it.
For over three decades, drama has been my backbone and strength, encompassing a variation of creative, artistic and performing arts; while facilitating its power for healing and working through problems, dilemmas and trauma.
Throughout my career, I have worked in community arts, creatively building and developing projects, addressing the social development and domestic needs of children, young people, and systemically working with their families.
Alongside my private practice, I am also the CEO and founder to Bennu. A registered charity, facilitating art, dance, drama and music therapy in schools and with looked after children.
Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy. Whether working as an individual or in a group, it provides a safe space to psychologically process and express emotions, feelings and behaviour, in an artistic and creative way.
Its engagement facilitates moments to explore, self-regulate and the potential to begin healing.
Dramatherapy can be communicated verbally, or non-verbally.
There is much to be desired and accomplished with imagination and metaphors. You are not alone. Working together in a confidential space, you will have the opportunity to share and work through what is on your mind and troubling you.
Through a creative lens, my work in 33 local authorities has provided me with a good sense of social demographics, and the scope to have a greater understanding that regardless of who you are or where you are from, trauma and tribulation does not discriminate, it is something that can affect us all. Coronavirus (Covid-19) is a prime example.
Our well-being and mental health are paramount. Over the years I have met too many people both professionally and personally who have been overworked, stressed, exhausted and simply 'burnout'. It is for this reason that I am making it one of my missions to promote the value of ‘self-care’.
Long lasting healing starts from within.
